Medical Dermatology Procedures
A medical dermatologist treats a wide range of conditions affecting hair, skin, and nails, including acne, rashes such as psoriasis, eczema, skin cancers, hair loss, and nail disorders. Below are some of the procedures physicians use to treat these conditions.
Cryotherapy
Cryotherapy is an effective treatment for different benign skin issues like warts. It can also be used to treat premalignant lesions called actinic keratoses. The procedure uses liquid nitrogen to freeze these lesions, effectively destroying the diseased tissue.
Excision of Lesions
Excisions are performed to remove skin cancers in their entirety. They can also be used to remove benign skin lesions that may be worrisome, causing problems, or simply for cosmetic reasons.
Mohs Surgery
Mohs surgery is a skin-sparing surgical technique that dermatologists use to treat skin cancer. The procedure involves the progressive removal of skin layers until there are no more cancerous cells present.
Cosmetic Dermatology Procedures
A cosmetic dermatologist can help to enhance your appearance even when there is no medical need to do so. Below are some common cosmetic dermatology procedures:
Facial Skin Treatments
When your skin develops flaws, facial skin treatments present a non-surgical way to improve your appearance. One of the benefits of these procedures is that they do not result in scarring. Popular cosmetic skin treatments include chemical peels, laser skin treatments, and IPL
photofacials.
Dermal Fillers and Botox Injections
Dermal fillers, like Restylane and Sculptra, help restore volume and fullness to aging skin. They are injections into facial tissue for the correction of wrinkles or folds. Botox injections are used to relax the muscles that cause wrinkles. Injections and fillers can be used to have your skin
looking its best.
Laser Treatments
Our ICON laser uses fractional laser technology to deliver pulses of energy to the skin. It can be used to perform different types of treatments, including hair removal, pigment or vascular treatments, and photorejuvenation.
